Language and IdentityAs mentioned in the previous page about language attitude, the informants expressed their concerns on Hakka in the integrative orientation. It is Hakka that links up the village membership and create a sense of centripetal force.
In this section, we would like to further investigate the relation between language and identity. We understand that language can be served as one of the essential factors that determines one's identity. In addition, identity cannot be perceived as stationary but fluid. By using the approaches from different scholars, this section is going to lead our exploration of this particular Hakka village to a new state, the complex issue of language and identity. |
