About Our Research
Where did we go ?Our group went to a Hakka village which is located at Tsiu Keng San Wai in Sheung Shui.
The Hakka speaking group we investigated in was originated from Bao'an County (寶安縣) in Mainland China and they moved from Nam Chung (南涌) in 1920s. Then the Hakka would like to search some suitable places for farming, so they moved to Tsui Keng. Until now, some Hakka are still living there. |
Who are they ?
They are Hakka in Hong Kong.
Fat (left one) and Yau (right one)
They are both aged above 65. In 1970s, they, along with their offspring, migrated to Scotland and they are currently living in Scotland . They will occasionally come back to Hong Kong for one to two months for vacation. They both speak fluent Cantonese and Hakka. As they had worked in Scotland and currently live there, they know a bit English vocabulary but do not speak fluent English.
Apple (middle one)
She is aged 4x (as age is the secret for female). She is raised in the village and received primary school education in the village, and then had secondary school education in the urban area. She lived in the village until she got married. Apple got married at 24 years old, and then she moved to urban area. She is now living in urban area with her husband and children. She speaks fluent Cantonese and Hakka.
